1 Peter 2:19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. ESV
I don't like the "suffering" part of being a Christ Follower. Sorry, I
have never claimed to be a "Super Saint" here, but I am letting you
know that suffering is not one of my favorite things about walking with
Jesus. On the other hand, I would not be who I am today if it were not
for growing through difficult seasons of pain and suffering. I'm not
trying to talk out of both sides of my mouth, I just want you to
understand that although I do not like or enjoy suffering I also know
that it's a necessary part of the process of being conformed into the image of Jesus.
Suffering teaches me to endure. Enduring qualifies me for a higher
degree of maturity and Christ-likeness. By definition the word "endure" means to suffer patiently, to last, to remain in existence. When I endure suffering and in particular unjust suffering the scripture tells me that it is a "gracious thing." The word "gracious" here means God's power, strength, ability and favor in the midst of pain or hardship. In other words, when I endure under suffering I actually demonstrate the very nature of God to a watching world.
Have you been suffering unjustly? Have you been accused of something
your did not do? Have you been misunderstood and talked about? Have
you been used as a scapegoat for someone's incompetence? Chances are you
have! I want to encourage you to endure, to suffer patiently, to
remain in existence and to display the character, virtue and nature of
a loving, gracious and forgiving Savior! The world is watching to see
how you will handle the weight that is being place upon you. Have an
amazing enduring day!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor J

So true that suffering is a part of being and growing as a Christian. There are many hardships I have endured in my life - kind of funny how I don't really use that term for them. Although when I am going through the difficult times I recognize the challenge, I have never though of them as suffering. Maybe it's because when I came out the other side, I always saw God's hand for good in them. He has always been merciful, just, and providing for my needs.
Believe me....I don't "suffer" patiently, I dislike it as much as everyone else. But I am so grateful that our God loves us in spite of our human nature and sent us his Son, through whom we are made perfect!
